3 fishing harbours coming up in East Godavari district

Rajamahendravaram: Three fishing harbours are coming up in East Godavari district in 2019 at an estimated cost of Rs 220 crore. The government is constructing the harbours for the benefit of fishermen in the district.

The fishing harbours are aimed at enabling massive fishing in the sea and also to market the marine wealth. At present there are no facilities to the fishermen along the sea coast and they have been facing problems due to lack of proper marketing and cold storage facilities for fish.

According to sources, a fishing harbour is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore at Antervedi-Pallipalem at a length of 140 metres in Konaseema area and is likely to be completed by the end of this month. 

Last year as many as 6,400 metric tonnes of fish produce was recorded in Antervedi area which the fishermen obtained using 320 mechanised boats. A road is also under construction connecting the main road and the fish-laden lorries can directly reach the harbour.

Another fishing harbour at Odalarevu village in Konaseema area will be completed by March 2019 and the State government is spending an amount of Rs 5 crore for the fishing harbour.
