Rape victims pledge to expose their problems

Ongole: The girls and women who are rescued from the brothel houses and victims of rape and atrocities have also equal human rights like all others and they should also be protected, demanded the members of Vimukti, the trafficking victims’ organisation. They announced that they are ready to expose their exploiters now, thanks to the #MeToo movement!

The Vimukti members organised a meeting at HELP Organisation in Ongole to observe the International Human Rights Day, on Monday. The organisation convener Vijayalakshmi said that Vimukti is formed to fight for the rights and future of trafficking victims and victims of atrocities as they share almost same situations. She said that they started the organisation with no action plan but commitment to fight for the justice to them and their sisters who are facing tough situations. 

She explained that the people around them has exploited them and trafficked as commercial sex workers. She said that they rotted in the hell like atmospheres but only a few of them escaped to live now but humiliated by public. Unable to cope with the torture by the fellow public, she added that many victims run back to dark rooms of brothels and live by dying daily. But after forming Vimukti with the help from HELP, she said that they started to know that they are not alone in suffering and wanted to join all voices together to fight for the justice.

Co-convener Bhanu announced that they are convincing the members to come forward to share the names of the people who exploited them and training them to expose the exploiters on social media as part of #MeToo movement. She announced that the members have already gone through abuses, tortures and hell like situations earlier and they have nothing to fear about losing. She said that they discussed the cases of Tanusri Datta and others who are abused by people around them and took inspiration from them.

The members of Vimukti announced that with the spirit of International Human Rights Day, they will come together and join the victims of trafficking and other atrocities to voice their plight and expose the exploiters with the help of #MeToo movement.
