Advanced technology yields good results in GVMC

Visakhapatnam: The advanced technology being adopted as part of Smart City project is giving good results in the city. With the help of command control system being set up at the administration building of GVMC, the senior officials are successfully coordinating with ground level staff and giving alerts to locals covering all the important 45 junctions in the city.

They also made successful efforts to prevent untoward incidents during Phethai cyclone. GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayanan was closely monitoring the situation from command control system room and instructing the officials to clear the drainages, roads and other sanitation works. The GVMC with the help of public addressing system erected smart poles in the city to alert the people regularly.

However, due to continuous rains since Monday morning, all the low-lying areas were inundated. Under the influence of Phethai cyclone, all parts in the city received heavy to very heavy rain. With the sudden downpour, all the drainages in Greater Visakhapatnam city were flooded with rainwater and the drainage water was   overflowing on the roads.

The flood water and drain water was mixed at some areas entered houses in the old city. However, the official machinery deployed to attend on emergency services, cleared the drainages choked with water.

While addressing the staff, who are working at the ground level, Commissioner Hari Narayanan called upon them to continue the tempo till Tuesday evening as heavy rains predicted for another 24 hours. Chief Medical Officer Dr Hemanth Kumar and Chief Engineer N Durga Prasad closely monitoring the service works.
