State tennikoit teams win laurels

Eluru: The Andhra Pradesh tennikoit players exhibited their talent at the national level competitions held at West Bengal between December 9 and 11 with the boys team securing second place at the national level and the girls team bagging third place. In all they pocketed two gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Yaswant Kumar secured bronze medal in the boys singles, and Navin Kumar and Nivas Patro bagged silver medals in the boys doubles. 

Likewise, P Renuka and PV Nagalakshmi bagged bronze medals in the girls doubles while N Nitin and P Mounika bagged gold medals in the mixed doubles.

The players belonging to West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Krishna districts were trained at the sports camp at Devarapalli in West Godavari before they left for West Bengal.

Physical Education Teachers Marlapudi Lakshmana Rao, KVDDV Prasad, Oruganti Nagaraju, Achanta Venkateswara Rao, Oruganti Ramakrishnam Raju, O Phani, Allaka Rajeswari trained the tennikoit players.

The players said that they were not habituated to the heavy cold weather at the venue otherwise, they could have secured more medals.
