SZ inter-varsity handball tourney begins

Kurnool: A Vara Prasad Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the Rayalaseema University (RU), inaugurated the South Zone Inter-University Handball tournament here on Saturday morning by lighting the lamp. 

RU Registrar B Amarnath and St Joseph’s Degree College Correspondent Y Showryl Reddy and others were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Addressing the participants, the V-C said that the RU is very fortunate to host South Zone inter-varsity handball tourney in Kurnool. 

Around 1,000 players from 67 varsities across South India are participating in the tournament. 

He lauded the contribution of St Joseph’s Degree College management for coming forward to give space for conducting the tournament. He made an appeal to players to make use of the government-sponsored welfare schemes. 

RU Registrar said winning and losing is very common in every competition. Showrly Reddy said the college is providing big platform for the sports. 

Necessary arrangements to the athletes have been made by the college management, she said and added that it has given her immense pleasure as the college has been selected for hosting South Zone inter-varsity handball tournament. 

RU Sports Coordinator Dr KV Shiva Kishore said the teams winning semi-finals here will take part in the All-India Handball tournament to be conducted at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar, Punjab. 

Later, the cultural programmes performed by the college students enthralled the onlookers. St Joseph’s Degree College Vice-Principal Dr K Santhi and others were present.
