Form special teams to conduct drives: Collector to police
Visakhapatnam: District Collector K Praveen Kumar directed the police and transport department officials to take preventive measures like conducting special drives and speed limit restrictions to avoid road fatalities and bike races during the New Year Day on the Beach Road.
Addressing the officials in a road safety meet held at the Collectorate on Wednesday, Praveen Kumar said that both police and transport officials should form special teams and conduct special drives to check road fatalities on December 31 night in the city.
The officials should put a check that no rider should not cross over 40 kms speed per hour while riding on two-wheelers, he said and added the officials should conduct awareness classes to students of both government and private educational institutions about the traffic safety norms.
He also instructed the GVMC and National Highway authorities’ officials to extend dividers in between Madhurawada and Boyapalem due to record number of fatalities on this stretch.
To avoid accidents at Yarada hills, he directed the GVMC and police officials to construct speed breakers along with glow sign boards at every curve of hill. He ordered the R&B and NH authorities to complete the incomplete patch works and potholes on the highway on emergency basis.
Transport Deputy Commissioner S Venkateswar Rao presented a power-point presentation on the agenda of the meeting and decisions took in the past meetings. Officials from transport, police, RTC, GVMC, R&B, National Highway and others were present.
