Prevention of food adulteration top priority in 2019: VEO G Ramanjeneyulu
Anantapur: Regional Vigilance and Enforcement officer (VEO) G Ramanjeneyulu has stated that his priorities for 2019 will be effectively preventing adulteration of food and sale of gutka which are hazards to health of the common people.
Keeping close watch on sale of duplicate seeds, fertilisers and pesticides which may affect the crops and cause loss to farmers in the district and taking steps to prevent misuse of subsidies and other benefits intended to be paid to the farmers by the State Government.
Addressing a press conference here, Ramanjeneyulu maintained that stringent action will be initiated on misuse of PDS commodities under EC Act besides registration of criminal cases. Keeping constant vigil on all Government related schemes intended for welfare of various sections of people and sending of reports to Government.
Measures will be taken to prevent illegal excavation of minerals and criminal cases will be registered and vehicles involved will also be seized, he said. Besides, cases will be booked on those indulging in illegal quarrying and criminal cases will be registered on the accused.
Periodical inspections will be conducted on Government hostels, SC ST hostels , BC hostels , Gurukula hostels and Anganwadi kendras. Taking up inspections on all civil works being executed by Irrigation Dept., R&B, PR&RD, RWS&S and other Engineering Departments and sending of reports on quality and standards involved are some of the measures to prevent illegal activities, Ramanjeneyulu said.
In the 2018-19 year, the Regional Vigilance and Enforcement department had seized 613 vehicles and realised an amount of Rs.4.86 crores. The officials detected tax evasion of Rs.7.78 crores in several quarries and recovered Rs.2.35 crores from them.
They also realised Rs.3.81 crores out f Rs.8.66 crores from gram panchayats relating to non-agriculture land tax dues. Power dues from municipalities amounting to Rs.55.57 crores were also recovered.
