Efforts to supply water to industries intensified
Tirupati: On the directions of the AP government, officials of the Water Resources department have drawn plans for providing water to newly set up industrial clusters in and around Yerpedu and western mandals of the district as part of the Chennai-Visakhapatnam industrial corridor.
Few months ago, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had instructed officials of the Water Resources department (Telugu Ganga Circle) to lay pipeline from Somasila-Swarnamuki linking canal. At present, officials are busy with linking Somasila-Swarnamuki link canal with Galeru-Nagari Sujala Sravanthi (GNSS) Project meant for providing irrigation water to eastern mandals of the Chittoor district.
A special pipeline will be laid from Merlapaka to Balaji reservoir via Mallimadugu dam. From Balaji dam, 0.5 tmcft of water would be pumped to IIT, IISER and for industries set up in the Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) 1 and 2 near Renigunta Airport. The water will be supplied to EMCs as per the assurance given by the Chief Minister.
Similarly, Telugu Ganga Project (TGP) officials have proposed a water pipeline to provide water from HNSS Punganur Main Branch Canal to Palamaner-Gangavaram industrial cluster which was established near Karnataka border. In another proposal, officials of the Water Resources department have proposed to supply water to Valmikipuram industrial cluster from HNSS main canal.
Industries Minister N Amaranatha Reddy, who is representing the Palamaner Assembly constituency, is keen on providing water for industrial purpose from Krishna river through HNSS and GNSS. A senior official of the TGP speaking to The Hans India said that earlier HNSS and GNSS were designed for only irrigation and drinking water needs.
Now, the State government decided to provide assured water to industrial sector, he mentioned. “Our higher officials had sent a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the State government seeking approval for drawing water to industries from HNSS and GNSS,” he added.
