Tailor courses to meet industry needs, says Prakasam Varsity I/c VC
Ongole: Universities should offer various courses based on the local resources and man power requirement for the industries, said Prof Rokkam Sudharshana Rao, in-charge vice-chancellor of the Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam University.
The State government appointed Rokkam Sudharshana Rao, who is also the vice-chancellor of Vikrama Simhapuri University and in-charge of the Dravida University as the in-charge of the Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam University, in its orders GO No 15 on Thursday night.
Speaking to ‘The Hans India,’ Sudarshana Rao expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao for reposing confidence in him.
He said that he was feeling proud to be named as the first vice-chancellor for the University that was named after a great freedom-fighter, who also worked as the chief minister of the state.
Thanking the chief minister for realizing the decades old dream of locals by establishing the university, the in-charge VC assured that he would try to implement best practices from the very first step.
He said that the government of Andhra Pradesh established a university in each district in 2008 with an aim to provide relevant courses to locals.
He said that based on the resource position, man power required to the industries, the university should introduce nonconventional and nontraditional courses to provide high level of employment to their students.
Sudharshana Rao said that as the in-charge vice-chancellor, he would focus on providing adequate physical infrastructure like classrooms and buildings with a vision for 30 years and academic infrastructure like well qualified and academically trained staff with modern laboratories and library to help quality research activities in the university.
At the initial stage, he said that he will try to provide minimum requirements to enter MoUs with well developed institutes in the country and abroad so that they could also fund the research work in the university and their patronage would help the students in future.
The in-charge VC announced that he would visit the erstwhile PG center of Acharya Nagarjuna University very soon to interact with the staff to assess the immediate steps to be taken.
