Call to enrol as voters

Kurnool: Rajya Sabha member TG Venkatesh and District Collector S Satyanarayana gave a call to voters, who have attained the age of 18, to enrol as voters. Both of them have participated as chief guests in National Voters’ Day celebrations organised at Police Parade Grounds here on Friday. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Rajya Sabha member stated that the India is the biggest democratic country in the world. He exhorted everyone, who has voting right, to exercise franchise in elections. The Collector mentioned that the Indian Constitution gave citizens right to vote. Since 1952, the Election Commission of India has been conducting elections efficiently and known for its credibility all over the world, he added. 

He further said that the National Voters Day is being celebrated since 2011 and has been infusing awareness about voting among voters. “We have enrolled 1.3 lakh youngsters as new voters in the district,” he claimed. Later, the senior citizens, who have been exercising their franchise in every poll, were felicitated. 

On the occasion, EPIC cards were handed over to the newly enrolled voters. Later, the Collector inaugurated the blood donation camp organised by the Red Cross Society. He also flagged off a rally at the Collectorate which concluded at the Police Parade Grounds. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli, Joint Collector P Ravi Subash, DRO Venkatesam, RDO Venkateswarlu and other district officials were present.
