MP lays foundation stone for Underground Dyke in Nagavali river

Srikakulam: Drinking water crisis will be solved for Srikakulam city during summer season with proposed under ground dyke (UGD) in Nagavali river said Srikakulam MP, K.Rammohan Naidu. He sets foundation stone for UGD in Nagavali on Friday along with local MLA, G.Laxmidevi and district Collector, K.Dhanunjaya Reddy.  Total estimated cost of the UGD is Rs 4.93 crore.

Water will be stored in the river for 313 square metres area in the river as a result infiltration wells and bore wells filled up with water even in summer, MP explained. UGD will be constructed in the river up to seven metres depth as a result sand excavations will be prevented in the river.

With the UGD water storage and supply will be easy even in summer season and to beautify the area ‘river view park’ also proposed adjacent to it with an estimated cost of Rs 8.5 crore to attract tourists and to provide refreshment to city residents, Collector explained.
