School children to get DVDs of Gandhi movie today

Vijayawada: DVDs of Director Richard Attenborough’s epic film Gandhi (in Telugu)  will be given to the students of 150 schools on the occasion of  death anniversary of the Father of Nation, on Wednesday, said Dr KPC Gandhi, president of Andhra Pradesh Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, the state unit of the Delhi-based national body. 

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, he said that death anniversary of Gandhiji will be observed at Siddhartha Auditorium on Wednesday. The students of various educational institutions in the city would attend the programme. They arrive at the auditorium in a peace march by 10 am. One-hour play on the freedom movement of India will be presented on the occasion, he said.

Commissioner of School Education Sandhya Rani will be the chief guest at the function where she would release a song book on Gandhiji. She would also release the DVD of Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi in Telugu which would be distributed to the students of 150 schools. 

Nalluri Venkateswarlu, president of Siddhartha Academy and Devineni Madhusudana Rao, head of Devineni Sitaramamma Foundation would be special guests. G Rashmi, secretary of Vasavya Mahila Mandali said that the youth would be encouraged to make short films on the ideology of Gandhiji.
