2.5 cr assets unearthed in ACB raid on Mines AD

Visakhapatnam: The Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths on Thursday caught Gondu Sivaji, assistant director in Mines and Geology department, near Anakapalli and conducted simultaneous raids at his office and relatives’ houses in various places in both Vizag and Vizianagaram and unearthed Rs 2.5 crore illegal assets including cash, gold, land documents and buildings.  

According to ACB DSP K Rama Krishna Prasad, the tainted officer Shivaji had joined the service as technical assistant in 1993 and since his joining in the department, he had earned illegal assets while working in vigilance section in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts. Shivaji was facing many corruption allegations since his joining to his service.

On a tip-off, the ACB officials raided his house at MVP Colony in the early morning of Thursday and another six teams conducted simultaneous raids on his relatives’ houses in Bheemili and other places in Vizianagaram.

During the raids, the six teams found Rs 82,77,000 in cash and 1,798 grams gold ornaments from the tainted officer’s bank lockers and identified the documents of G plus 3 building at  MVP colony, G plus 2 building at Bhogapuram and a vacant land (267 sq yards) near Kapuluppada area in Visakhapatnam.

Recently, he had purchased 22 cents of land in his native place Bantupalli near Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district. Shivaji was taken into custody and will be produced in the special court on Friday, the DSP added.
