Women empowerment key to welfare: Minister KS Jawahar

Kovvuru: Minister for Excise KS Jawahar has said that the welfare of family and society were closely linked with woman empowerment.

He distributed pasupu and kumkuma to the self-help group members and hiked pensions to pensioners at a programme organised at Pangidi village of Kovvuru mandal on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that if a woman becomes financially self-sufficient, she helps in the welfare of her family and thereby the entire society. 

Given an opportunity, women could do anything and also compete with man, he said. The state government was aiming for women empowerment and helping them grow financially in various ways, the minister added.

Stating that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had recognized the power of women and paved  the way for their financial uplift by Self-Help Groups, the minister informed that the SHG women have proved their mettle in the state and became a role model for women other states. 

The Chief Minister had been extending Rs 10,000 as gift under the Pasupu-Kumkuma programme as part of waiver of DWCRA loans to SHG individuals, he added.

Collector Praveen Kumar informed that the government was extending Rs 756 crore towards Pasupu-Kumkuma in the district.
