Anantapur: District Water Management Agency (DWMA) Project Director (PD) Jyothi Basu said the district will stand on top in the State to utilise Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) funds. “We are able to provide 100 days work to 68,992 families.

There are 40 days left for the present financial year. We designed a plan to spend Rs 850 crore. Collaborating with other departments we are working on war footing. Review is being made every week. APD, APO and other staff are given targets to accomplish,” he added.

The district is in the first place in the country by achieving the enormous target of digging 1 lakh plus farm ponds. Rightly called ‘Panta Sanjeevani,’ it is coming to the rescue of the drought-hit district farmers and contributing greatly to water conservation campaign.
