Irrigation AE caught while taking 2 lakh bribe
Kurnool: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) personnel caught assistant engineer of irrigation department in Nandyal G Rajasekhar while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a contractor to clear his bills on Monday.
According to ACB DSP C Jaya Rama Raju, the accused official Rajasekhar Reddy demanded Rs 2 lakh to sanction bills for the works executed by a contractor Ramana Reddy under Neeru-Chttu programme. Ramana Reddy approached the ACB officials lodged a written complained against the assistant engineer. As per the suggestions of ACB officials, the contractor agreed to pay the bribe to Rajasekhar.
He visited him at his office on Monday and handed over Rs 2 lakh. The ACB personnel, who lay in wait, caught Rajasekhar while he was accepting the bribe money.
“We have seized the cash besides taking the tainted officer in to custody. We have registered a case and will produce him in the ACB court on Tuesday for further action,” said the ACB DSP, Jaya Rama Raju.
This the third incident of ACB officials arresting corrupt officials in the district this month so far. On February 7, a junior assistant Golla Ramesh was caught while taking a bribe. A week later, assistant commercial tax officer Nagendra Prasad was arrested in disproportionate assets case.
