Chirala: The Chirala police arrested former minister and local Telugu Desam Party leader Paleti Ramarao and his followers on Wednesday for inciting riots and disturbing peace in Chenethapuri Colony.

He was released later in the evening after submitting a court bail at the police station. According to rural CI B Prasad, after Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan switched loyalty from TDP to YSRCP, senior TDP leaders in the constituency are trying to gain the confidence of people.

On Tuesday evening, Ramarao and his followers organised a meeting at the Konijeti Chenethapuri Colony and invited the locals to share their problems. Meanwhile, the locals questioned Ramarao as to why he didn’t come to visit them earlier and an argument ensued between them.
The followers of Ramarao reportedly beat up four locals, who sustained severe injuries.

They were shifted to hospital after a complaint at rural police station.  The police booked a case for rioting and disturbing peace against Ramarao and his followers and arrested four activists on Wednesday morning. On receiving the information that his followers were arrested, Ramarao and his aide Sajja Venkateswarlu came to the police station to visit their men.

The CI announced that he was also arresting them as complaints had been registered against them. Meanwhile, Ramarao alleged that the police were supporting Krishna Mohan and his men and harassing him even when they were trying to do good for people. He further alleged that the police were extending cooperation to Chirala MLA and not arresting him even though a number of warrants were pending against him and his men.

MLC and TDP women wing president Pothula Suneetha visited Ramarao to support him and inquired with the CI about the case. CI Prasad said that the police will not allow anyone to incite violence in the area and it was not supporting anyone. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the police and see the coming elections are held in peaceful atmosphere. After receiving the court bail for the TDP leaders, the police released them on Wednesday evening.
