One dies, 36 hurt as private bus turns turtle

Kurnool: One person was killed and 36 others sustained injuries in a road accident at Orvakal in Kurnool on Friday evening. According to police, around 50 persons, all residents of Mandya district in Karnataka State, were set on a pilgrimage after hiring a private bus two days ago. 

They first visited Mahanandi and had the darshan of Mahanandeeshwara. Later they were on their way to Mantralayam to seek the blessings of Raghavendra Swamy.

When the bus reached Orvakal on Friday evening, the bus overturned. One person died on the spot while 36 others sustained injuries. On learning about the accident, the Orvakal police rushed to the spot and with the help of the locals rushed the injured to Kurnool General Hospital.

Sub Inspector D Madhusudhan Rao speaking to The Hans India said that one of the bus tyres exploded and the bus turned turtle near a flyover bridge.  Though it is a major accident, luckily, majority of the passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the mishap and immediately spoke to Kurnool District Collector S Sathyanarayana. He instructed the Collector to ensure good treatment to all the injured persons.

The Collector visited Kurnool General Hospital and expressed his sympathy to the injured. He directed hospital Superintendent Dr P Chandrasekhar to deploy adequate staff and ensure best medical care to the injured.
