Officials directed to fill summer storage tanks
Vijayawada: The district administration is taking all measures to ensure supply of adequate drinking water to the people this summer. As part of it, summer storage tanks will be filled in the district to overcome the water problem. District Collector Md Imtiaz on Wednesday convened a meeting with the Rural Water Supply (RWS), Panchayat Raj and Irrigation department officials at the Collector’s camp office.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector asked the officials to fill all the 389 water storage tanks to avoid drinking water scarcity. He said the capacity of these tanks is 0.56 tmc.
Irrigation superintendent engineer KVLNP Chowdary informed the collector that the summer storage tanks would be filled with water from Ryves canal, Elur canal, KBE canal, NSP Canal, Bandar canal, Polavaram and Gollapudi lift irrigation scheme. He said 3,300 cusecs of water would be released from Eluru canal, 4,300 cusecs of water from Bandar canal and 3,800 cusecs of water from KBE canal.
