Poor sanitation, unsafe drinking water causing sickness

Adilabad: Lack of co-ordination in Medical and Health Department, Rural water Supply and Panchayati Raj departments resulting poor sanitation and people falling to illness in rural areas in the joint district.

Villages in the district are at a high risk of diseases due to a lack of sanitation. Every year in rainy season deceases have been spreading medical and health department is not taking steps with perfect plan.

Panchayat Raj department which has to maintain sanitation in rural areas. Rural Water Supply (RWS) department to supply safe drinking water failing to provide safe drinking water in rural areas. There is a risk that seasonal diseases can be life threatening to the people of rural areas. Diseases such as malaria, diarrhea and viral fevers are very common every year during the monsoon season in the district. There is an increased risk of infections. Water pollution due to rain and water mosquitoes is common in the sewers.

In the joint Adilabad district every year people are dyeing due to illness. People hoping that medical and health department and Panchayat Raj department can prevent the deceases if they work with co-ordination. In rural areas, no measures have been taken to clean drinking water sources and to prevent the contamination of drinking water in the villages. Bleaching powder was not sent to the gram Panchayts so far.

This year, 977 diarrhea cases, 1957 fever cases, 17 dengue fever cases were registered. Malaria is in control. If there is no sanitation in the rainy season, malaria is likely to increase. Every year Medical and Health department sanction Rs.10,000 to Gram pancyats to for sanitation works. Last year it released Rs.22 Lakhs for 1222 Gram panchayats in the joint district.

District Medical and Health Officer Rajeev Raj speaking to the Hans India said that they have identified high risk villages and giving the treatment to the patients.
