Deadline set for Polavaram evacuees housing

Eluru: District Joint Collector M Venugopal Reddy has asked the officials of various departments to complete the works relating to houses of Polavaram evacuees by March-end.

Reviewing the progress of relief and rehabilitation works for the displaced families of the Polavaram project here, the Joint Collector expressed dissatisfaction over the tardy pace of works. He stressed on the need to speed up the works to provide housing units to the evacuees with all basic facilities.

He pointed out the delay on behalf of departments including Panchayat Raj, Roads and Buildings and Housing Corporation. He directed the officials to issue notices to contractors not meeting the deadlines. He also suggested the officials to keep in black list the contractors who were ignoring their notices.

Reddy warned the officials issuing show-cause notices, seeking their explanation over the delay in executing housing construction works. He said action would be initiated against the officials if they failed to improve their functioning within a week. It was the responsibility of the officials to motivate field-level staff and contractors to complete the works as per schedule.

They should ensure works of housing completed in the stipulated time so that the relief and rehabilitation process would continue in a smooth way, he said.
