Dalit women very strong to face life
Vijayawada: Dalit women are very confident, courageous to face the challenges in life, said Moka Satti Babu, additional project director of Rajiv Vidya Mission while addressing the conference on Development of Dalit Women in connection with the International Women’s Day at the Press Club here on Friday.
Satti Babu said that in spite of their confidence, the Dalit women are subject to inequalities in the society and are dying due to lack medical facilities.
He deplored that the Dalit girls are facing sexual harassment in schools. He regretted that there was no representation to Dalit women either in Parliament or in the Assemblies.
He recalled the quote of Ambedkar stating that Dalit women development should be the criteria for assessing the development of the society.
He advised the Dalit women to take examples of Savitribai Phoole and Ramabai instead of becoming slaves to the husbands.
Gaddam Jhansi, national convener of Dalit Stree Shakti, said that the Dalit women in the society are facing exploitation and repression.
“It is high time the families in general and the men in particular are needed to be sensitised to bring Dalit women into the mainstream,” she added.
Daniel Prakash, national programme manager presiding over the meeting and Prof Subrahmanyam, Samule John, Pollution Control Board member Nagarjuna, Dalit Stree Shakti leaders Hemalata, Vijayakumari, Manikyam, Padmalata, Mariyamma and others participated.
