Sobhan Babu Awards to honour Telugu talent

Sobhan Babu, who carved a niche for himself in the Telugu film industry as an action and romantic hero for nearly three decades retired gracefully from acting on attaining the age of 60 in 1997 and passed away in 2008.  Moreover, he won a lot of female fans.  Now, perpetuating his memory, the ‘All-India Sobhan Babu Seva Samithi,’ has decided to give away awards in acting in his name at a grand gala function in Hyderabad on December 25 in the presence of Tollywood bigwigs. 

Speaking about the event in Hyderabad on Sunday, veteran actor and MP M Muralimohan said that Sobhan Babu was not only a great actor but also a great human being.  He was highly committed and sincere to his profession and won thousands of fans, he added. He said that he persuaded him a lot to act in one of their films ‘Athadu’ and also sent  him a blank cheque but he politely declined the offer.  
  
Actor and writer Paruchuri Venkateshwara Rao said that he was delighted to be associated with an event related to Sobhan Babu and commended the ‘All India Sobhan Babu Seva Samithi’ for constituting awards in the name of the late actor.  He said that a total of 19 awards would be presented. Among these were one ‘Lifetime Achievement Award,’ nine evergreen awards and nine awards for promising actors. He said that veteran actor Krishnam Raju would be the chief guest on the occasion. Representative of the All -India Sobhan Babu Seva Samithi M Sudhakar Babu said that they would continue to involve themselves in social service activities to keep the memory of Sobhan Babu alive in the hearts of his fans.
