Gully Boy is a Fictional Story, Not a Biopic Says Zoya Akhtar
Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar says that forthcoming musical drama Gully Boy is not a biopic on Divine or Naezy, it is a fictional story, on the sidelines of the trailer launch.
Talking about the film and clearing the air that the film is a biopic, Zoya Akhtar said, “This is not a biopic, this is not a biopic of Naezy or Divine. This is a completely fictional story. It is inspired by them and their music; they worked with me on the film to make it authentic. I took inputs about their lives, music, nuances, so there are a lot of things from their lives in the film but it is not an exact biopic, it is a fictional drama”
After Dil Dhadanke Do, this is second outing of Zoya Akhtar with Ranveer Singh and the filmmaker says that Simmba star is a method actor.
She said, “Ranveer Singh is a method actor. If he has to rap all day, he can rap all day. Ranveer is the energizing bunny, but he is extremely sensitive and has a very high IQ. When you are shooting with him, he throws all his energy in the first take, and then he gets into the character”
Talking about the inspiration for the film, Zoya said, “I was editing Dil Dhadakne do. And my editor showed me a video of Naezy. He is a rap artiste. It was authentic desi rap, and the journey of Gully Boy started”
Gully Boy is written and directed by Zoya Akhtar. It also stars Alia Bhatt and Kalki Koechlin in the lead role. It is produced by Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment.
The film is slated for 14th Feb 2019 release.
