DPS Nacharam celebrates World Environment Day
Hyderabad: Haven’t we heard “What you are is what you eat”?Today all of us talk about eating organic food, fresh vegetables, fruits, etc. As they say history repeats - we are going back to traditional ways of eating, cooking and even farming. But did we ever realise that we spend so much time in buying organic groceries, organically harvested fruits and vegetable just later to serve it to your family in PLASTIC CONTAINERS?
Plastic seems unavoidable -even as I type with this plastic keys on my monitor to carry bags, bottles, packets, food containers and others. Do you know plastic takes 10 – 1000 years to decompose. Plastic pollution has polluted the earth now it is having adverse effects even on the health. There are evidences that chemicals BPA (Bisphenol A , an industrial chemical) that is present in the plastic leach into our body from the food containers and water bottles.
The long duration exposure to BPA may have possible effects on brain, behaviour and prostate gland of foetuses, infants and children. The major segment that is getting adversely affected because of this are - school children and working crowd, who carry food and water in plastic containers. Whatever amount of nutrition you are trying to provide is nullified if it is not plated properly.
Responsibility begins at home and it should not end there. Say NO TO PLASTIC. Replace plastic with metal, ceramic and glassware. You may not change the world in a day but these small measures will lead to a healthy tomorrow for our young citizens who will one day lead way to a plastic free world.
