Lecture on ‘Irrigation Projects and Post Benefits’ organised

Khairatabad: IEI, Telangana State Centre organised Dr J Purushottam Thirteenth Endowment Lecture on “Irrigation Projects – Post Benefits” delivered by Er Bhupathiraju Nagendra Rao, Engineer-in-Chief on Friday at Visvesvaraya Bhavan, Khairatabad.

Er Bhupathiraju Nagendra Rao said that the economy of Telangana is mainly driven by agriculture and irrigation remains the backbone of the agricultural development as it increases crop productivity and reduces the risk of crop failure. He said agriculture remains a priority sector because of its high potential of employment generation, food security, inclusiveness and sustainability of growth. 

Due to inadequate availability of surface and groundwater in Telangana, agriculture is mostly rain fed and risky with low productivity. He added that the goal of the Government is for the enhancement of the Irrigation intensity from the present 1.40 to over and above 1.50 and making available water to all.
