Alert locals from Naya Qila save Wakf Land from Encroachment

Naya Qila: The residents of Naya Qila due to quick response were able to save 3,242 square yards plot from encroachment. The plot is situated adjacent to Masjid-e-Kalan at Jamali Darwaza near the historic Golconda Fort. A local Shaik Sayeed gathered people and rushed to the spot as soon as a group of people started breaking the boundary wall. He said, “If we did not reach the spot on time, they would have built a small structure. This is part of Masjid-e-Kalan and the land was leased out illegally.”

Locals said that the Wakf Board leased out the land and granted rental proceeding in favour of Md Jahangir alias Quiser without calling for auction. The group after stopping the people who tried to take control of the plot rushed to the Telangana Wakf Board and submitted a petition. The Chairman of Wakf Board Mohd Saleem assured them that an inspection team would be sent and ordered enquiry. 

People in the know of things said that the old committee had cancelled the agreement of lease but on March 27, the Wakf Board again gave it on lease to the party without calling for an auction. 

Imran, a resident of Naya Qila said, “When a Wakf property is given out on lease the place ought to be used for the benefit of the community by constructing schools and imparting education. In this case, there is no intention as such.” Khader Khan, another resident said, “In all other departments when a government property is given on lease it is widely publicised and tenders are called for online. Why is the Wakf board not following the rules?”

Locals submitted a representation to the chairman of Wakf Board to conduct the enquiry and call for a public auction for letting the land AP Gazette 32-A dated 30-08-1984. Pg no 17 Sl no 1746 and the total premises is 3242 square yards land.
