Lingojiguda: The LB Nagar area is to get box-type storm water drains for the first time. The region has never had storm water drains for 150 colonies. The introduction of box-type drains is expected to resolve the inundation problem in the colonies once and for all. The box-type drains also have holes which was not the case in the earlier pipes, said an official.

The Saroornagar to Karmanghat road was blocked on Tuesday night to carry out the works. The storm water would be let into Saroornagar Lake. Local corporator Mandraboina Srinivasa Rao instructed GHMC higher officials to complete the developments works before the rainy season at a review meeting at ward office on Wednesday.

Another initiative has been the use of nets at the mouth of drains from Biramalguda tank and sanitation staffs are removing garbage at the nets regularly. The corporator informed that the nets that were placed last year have worn out and they were being replaced with new ones.  A huge amount of garbage was being collected which would otherwise would have got into the drains.

Mandraboina asked them to expedite the underground drainage (UGD), box type drain and restoration of BT/CC roads works in the division. GHMC executive engineer Ananta Ramulu, divisional engineers Harilal and Venugopal Reddy, assistant engineer Raghu were present.
