Hastinapuram: About 500 families are now heaving a huge sigh of relief as the government felicitated for a new borewell at Roshan Dowla Colony. The old borewell went dry this summer and as a result, the people were surviving on water tankers.

The Water Board has been supplying 21 water tankers every alternate day during summer. Local corporator Ramavath Padma Srinu Naik inspected the borewell works at Roshan Doula Colony on Wednesday. The Roshan Dowla colony has been ridden in controversy for long as DRDL bought the land on which 500 families stay but is unable to coax the people to vacate the area.

The new borewell work cost Rs 3 lakh. “We had to go 250-feet deep to get water and that too is an indication of the water crises,” said an official.   Senior GHMC official said that this was a temporary measure and once the Krishna pipeline work is sanctioned and gets completed, the colony would get water supply.

In the meantime, the residents are living in a state of confusion, as the DMRL authorities are pressurizing them to vacate the land.  Ravi, a resident said, “We have been living here for several years and do not want to leave. Even this borewell will not help for long. We are eagerly waiting for Krishna water which will save us.”

GHMC divisional engineer Venugopal, assistant engineer Praveen, local leaders Ramesh, Kesireddy Srinivas Reddy, Yadaiah, Sayeed were present.
