Corporators miffed over non-invitation

Chandanagar: The corporators of Hafeezpet, Miyapur and Chandanagar divisions are a miffed lot. The elected representatives allege that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) convened a meeting on various nala works but did not invite the corporators.

The corporators V Pujitha Jagadeeshwar Goud, Bobba Navatha Reddy and Meka Ramesh toured the area on Friday to take stock of the nala works and blamed the respective contractors for the delay in compling works. They submitted a memorandum to the zonal commissioner Harichandana on the irregularities.

The corporators say that the GHMC constructed a bridge under which severage flows and enters into the colony. There was no foresight on the part of the civic body, allege the corporators. V  Pujitha Jagadeeshwar Goud says, “Due to the stench and overflowing sewerage, 30,000 people living in the area are affected. ” The residents of Shilpa Reddy Enclave are objecting to the shoddy works.

The corporators also allege that the GHMC is siding with one landlord who is adamant in giving his land and as a result, thousands are affected. The greater good of the society is not looked into. Bobba Navatha Reddy says, “It is also the duty of the GHMC to keep a tab on the progress of the works in the zone and know the status and follow up with contractors.

There are at least half-a-dozen projects that have been stalled as contractors have left them unfinished. A contractor on condition of anonymity said that the GHMC does not release funds on time and contractors just cannot run after the officials, ultimately, work suffers. Some contractors continue the work in hope that the money would be released but at times it takes months and even a year in some cases.

Attempts to contact the zonal commissioner Harichandana proved futile. However, a senior official of GHMC said that it was a routine meeting held at the office with the engineering staff and there was no need for the corporators to take offence.
