Build pedestrian-friendly roads, CS instructs officials

Secunderabad: Chief Secretary Dr S K Joshi asked the officials to build pedestrian friendly Grade -1 roads for the benefit of people using footpaths.  Presiding over the 12th meeting of the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority at secretariat on Monday, he suggested that comprehensive long term and short term plans should be formulated to ensure that the common man was not affected due to the increasing vehicles in the city. 

Joshi reviewed common ticketing for MMTS and RTC travel, setting up of intercity bus terminal, MMTS phase 2, intelligent transport master plan, prevention of accidents on ORR, identification of parking slots for vehicle parking and setting up of logistic parks.  Construction of footpaths should be taken up in the city, he said. Special focus should be on controlling speed and preventing accidents on the ORR, he added.   Mapping should be done and preventive steps should be taken on risk prone areas where there are incidents of frequent accidents. 

He said that LED lighting should be ready on ORR by the end of December.  Identification of lands for the construction of multi level parking under PPP should be expedited, he said.  Felicon signals should be set up in 105 junctions.  Members of truck association and private bus management should be included as members in the UMTA, he added.
