People fume at contractor for shoddy work on double road project
Vikarabad: Ditches have been formed barely two years of laying the double road from KottagadiMaisamma temple to Maitapkhanguda via Ekmamidi and Nawabpet on Vikarabad-Hyderabad route making the journey on the road a worst experience for the commuters. The road was laid at a cost of Rs 12 crore financial support from Central Road Fund.
Earlier, the commuters on the road faced difficulties as the road was a single road and handles heavy traffic of vehicles transporting commodities mainly granite. But, even after making the single road into the double road, the problems continued because of the poor execution of the road project. The road project was completed on May 6, 2016. The vehicle raiders are complaining of road accidents taking place on account of the poor execution of the works. It is alleged that the contractor has given a go-by to the adherence to the rules while executing the project.
When the R and B officials are approached for getting repairs done to the road, they held the contractor squarely responsible for all maintenance works for two years. But the contractor is claiming innocence stating that the newly road has been intact while the single road that was existent prior to taking up the double road project is creating problems. Meanwhile, the irate people are breathing fire on the contractor for what they called the shoddy work in the execution as such the road did not even last for two years.
The people allege that the contractors indulge in profiteering with the support from the bureaucracy. They lament that the elected people’s representatives turn a blind eye to the wrong doing by the contractor. The people are seething with anger at the amount of wastage going on in execution of the projects like the present double-line road works.
