CIPET working on bio-degradable plastic

Cherlapally: The Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology is working towards plastic products that would decompose, says AVR Krishna, director and head of Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Cherlapally.

The 1987 established centre has been working towards innovative plastic products. Krishna says, “We are on the verge of coming out with products that would decompose.” He further added that plastic products produced at CIPET were more than 50 microns. He said that those students having knowledge on plastic processing and plastic mould design were on demand in as many as plastic industries. They were immediately taken up by the industries with initial salary of around Rs 12,000 once their course was completed.

To coincide with the market demand, more than 600 unemployed youth chose diploma in plastic processing and plastic mould design,  As of now, close to 5,000 underprivileged and unemployed youth were being benefited from various skill development programmes. The institute which was started in the year 1987 has been providing long-term and short-term technical and non-technical courses to the youth from 18 to 30 years of age. 

After completing the course, they were given job opportunities. The other courses include machine operator- plastic processing, injection moulding, plastic extrusion, milling, entrepreneurship skill development programs. Apart from that, the institute is also benefiting technical students of Osmania University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University. “We are providing our equipment for research for the students of both JNTU and OU for their academic purposes.”
