Cops distribute ‘plastic bags’ for Bakrid

Hyderabad: As part of helping the GHMC towards ensuring hygiene on the eve of Bakrid, police officials and NGOs like ‘Team Bakrid’ were seen distributing black ‘plastic bags’ to residents in the parts of Old City on Tuesday. 

While asking the residents to use these plastic bags for filling up with animal waste before disposing of at the garbage containers, the police officials assisted by local members of ‘Team Bakrid’ distributed thousands of bags in different localities. 

In Santosh Nagar, Blue Colts staff distributed plastic covers at Qalander Nagar, Santosh Nagar and Owaisi Nagar and other areas. In Chandrayangutta, S Naveen SHO Chandrayangutta and staff engaged themselves in the activity. N Shankar SHO Kanchanbagh and D Venkanna Naik SHO Dabeerpura along with their staff respectively distributed in their areas. 

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy informed that the civic body has provided 1,50,000 plastic bags free of cost to lift the waste on priority for which 464 vehicles have also been provided for transportation. 

For this year’s festival, the GHMC has engaged 46, 25-tonner vehicles, 108, 10-tonner vehicles, 54 mini tippers, 35 JCBs and 3 Bob Cots vehicles.  Apart from that 20,000 plastic bags have also been provided to the Police Department for lifting the waste. 

He said that sanitation has been arranged on continuous basis at Masjids and  Eid Gahs and all major roads leading towards the place of worship.  Special sanitation has been made at Miralam Eid Gah and Mecca Masjid through deployment of sufficient manpower with lime and bleaching. 

He also informed that sprinkling of lime and bleaching powder has been taken up. “Plastic covers were distributed at Masjid and Eid Gah towards providing to the households for collection of animal wastage and to handover to the GHMC vehicles, which can prevent the spillage on roads. 

Sufficient vehicles have been provided for collection of animal wastage and to transport within 2 hours, ensuring free roads from animal waste. Joint coordinated efforts with Police Department at all Station House Officers is ensured,” he added.
