South Central Railway to plant 20 lakh saplings as part of Swachhta Hi Sewa
Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) would be planting 20 lakh saplings this year. This was informed by the SCR general manager, Vinod Kumar Yadav, after a meeting with Ashwani Lohani, chairman, Railway Board here on Thursday. The plantation drive would be taken up under “Swachhta Hi Sewa” cleanliness drive.
Ashwani stressed upon enhancement of cleanliness standards at Railway stations and trains with the Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat programme as part of special cleanliness drive “Swachhta Hi Sewa” from September 15 to October 2. He conducted a review meeting with the General Managers of Indian Railways from Railway Board, New Delhi on Thursday. Vinod Kumar and Principal Heads of Departments participated in the meeting through video conference at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.
Addressing the meeting, Ashwani advised the General Managers to accord top priority for the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” cleanliness drive to achieve significant improvement in the cleanliness aspect all over Indian Railways. Further, he advised all the Zonal Managers to take up massive tree plantation as eco-friendly measure by involving self-help groups and non-government organizations etc.
Later, Vinod Kumar instructed all the DRMs to make exclusive plans for improving the standards of cleanliness as part of “Swachhta Hi Sewa” cleanliness drive. He directed DRMs to give priority for provision of Divyangjan toilets at all stations. He also held a detailed Division wise review of the station redevelopment program. John Thomas, Additional General Manager; KV Siva Prasad, Principal Chief Engineer; MG Sekharam, Principal Chief Commercial Manager; A A Phadke, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer; were amongst the officials present.
