Tandur: Congress MLA-elect ‘Pilot’ Rohit Reddy started his political journey with actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam in 2008. But he failed in getting the party ticket. Later he actively participated in Telangana movement.

After the Telangana state was formed, he joined the TRS and tried to get ticket in 2014 elections. But the party high-command announced Patnam Mahender Reddy’s candidature, who left the TDP and joined the TRS, for Tandur. Mahender Reddy won the seat and became minister in the state cabinet.

According to party sources, later differences cropped up between Rohit Reddy and Mahender Reddy and the consecutive events made the party high command expel Rohit from the TRS. In the meantime, Rohit started a social service organisation ‘Young Leaders’ and started creating awareness among the youth in both the rural and the urban pockets.

Later, he secured a ticket from the Congress and entered the recent poll fray as People’s Front candidate. Rohit Reddy defeated his nearest rival Mahender Reddy and fulfilled his decade-old dream of entering the State Assembly.
