JNTUH students protest over professor’s ‘remark’ on SC/STs
The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTUH) witnessed a varsity bandh on Thursday by the Dalit and tribal students over a professor’s alleged remarks against them,
More than 50 Dalit and tribal students shut the university main gate, put up posters against the professor on university walls demanding action against him.
The students claimed that the professor, from the mechanical engineering department, had passed comments against them during a Bharat bandh called by the SC/ST community, on April 2 and urged the authorities to suspend the professor and file a case against him under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
In case the JNTUH authorities fail to initiate action against him, the protestors threatened to boycott him from teaching in all other colleges and state universities.
The bandh led to the boycott of classes leading to Mid-term exams for second-year students and supplementary exams getting postponed.
