Congress slams SCR over TS government posters

Update: 2018-10-27 05:30 IST

Hyderabad: The Congress Party on Friday demanded removal of TRS’ campaign content from Multi-Model Transport System (MMTS) and local trains that run in the twin cities, conforming to the guidelines of Model Code of Conduct, which is in effect for the ensuing Assembly polls. In a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Rajat Kumar, TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Venkatesh, in-charge of Charminar Constituency, accused the TRS government of using train services as a means of publicity, and taking an unfair advantage over its rivals.

The Congress leaders pointed out that there is an apparent unwritten understanding between the officials of the South Central Railway (SCR) and caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. They demanded immediate action against KCR, state ministers and the officials who seem to be acting in favour of the ruling party.

According to the representation, stickers and posters that portray KCR, ministers and the welfare schemes implemented by the government are still being displayed on trains to attract people’s attention, despite the guidelines of Model Code of Conduct. It also stated that despite the recent three-day tour of the Election Commission and its orders to take action against violators of the code, the posters were not removed. The Congress leaders told the CEO that some officials seem to be acting in a high-handed manner and that the display of government posters on trains is an instance of indifference of officials to the orders given by the Election Commission.
