Onlookers at the Assembly witnessed this very incident where Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar started crying during session. This is following the audio tape that was leaked that featured BJP MLA Shivanagouda Naik allegedly telling Sharanagouda, son of JD(S) MLA from Gurmitkal Naganagouda Kandkur, that the speaker had been "booked" for Rs 50 crore. The bribe was to ensure his smooth resignation from his responsibilities at the Assembly.
The speaker burst into tears and said he has never inonvenienced anybody and has always followed his mother's advice, considering her to be his biggest political mentor and teacher. He recalled that he was made custodian of the legislative assembly at the age of 43, when the then CM Deve Gowda apparently said he needs someone who he could trust with his position, and requested KR Ramesh Kumar to handle the responsibilities.
The speaker also invited the media and MLAs to his home, which he claims is a small house in Amarjyothi, Domlur. The speaker said he never intended to inconvenience his neighbours, leading him not to even place a name plate infront of his home. He said the whole incident is a disgrace to his public image.
