Was Nehru really dynasty-minded?

Update: 2019-02-01 05:30 IST

This has reference to the letter in this column on 31st January, 2019 by C V Krishna Manoj, "NEHRU STARTED IT ALL.". The writer quoting from Nijalingappa's Autobiography, "My Life and Politics", says that in the year 1962, Nijalingappa's name was proposed for the post of the President of the AICC.

Y.B.Chavan suggested a woman, Indira Gandhi. When Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant intervened to say that Indu was too young and her health was also not permitting, Nehru shot back to say that Indu was in a fit condition to shoulder the responsibility.

Pant was born on 10, September 1887 and died on 7, March 1961.Indira became the President of the AICC in 1959. Her regime was known for one of the most undemocratic actions of ousting the first elected Communist Govt led by Namboodiripad. Chronology does not tally with the facts. It may be a typographical error, which may be clarified by the writer. I am trying to get a copy of "My Life and Politics" for better understanding of this issue.
