Residents of the Whitefield attacked by mob at Durga Puja celebrations
The residents of the Isha Misty Green in Channasandra, Whitefield, at their Durga Puja celebration were attacked by a mob for playing loud music on the 18th of October. Abdul Ahad, DCP, Whitefield, confirmed the attack, saying “it was the result of some argument over music being played loudly during the function.”
The riot took place at around 9:45 PM when a group of 15-20 people barged into the apartment premises and were stopped by the security guards. The residents say that the group beat up the guards and six or seven of the men from the group stormed in and attacked the residents with bamboo sticks. The constables present at the Durga Puja celebrations chased them away and informed Kadugodi police station. Few minutes later, a mob of about 40 men showed up. Residents alleged that the men from Isha Misty Green were mostly away for dinner and the women, children and the elderly who were at the dandiya event became easy targets for the mob. Some suffered fractures and cuts; even pregnant women and the elderly were not spared, they said.
“We had taken due permissions from BBMP and the police department to play music till 10:30 pm. But we agreed to stop the music at 10 pm, when the previous owner of the land on which the apartment stands objected. However, we were attacked on October 18 on the same issue,” said a resident.
The residents who were injured registered an FIR at around 11:30 PM, a copy of which is with BM. “Some of the accused were also involved in a gambling case two years ago. They will not be spared,” said DCP Ahad.
