Aquaex-India 2018 will help promotion of fisheries and aqua culture sector: Talasani
Hyderabad:Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that the "AquaEx-India- 2018", proposed to be held Hitex from March 15 to 17 will help the Telangana State in the promotion of Fisheries and Aquaculture sector in a big way and benefit farmers, buyers, suppliers, scientists, consultants, professionals and prospective new entrants.
While announcing the schedule for the expo and showing the presentation of different activities in the trade of fisheries and aquaculture, along with Animal Husbandry Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Commissioner of Fisheries Dr. C.Suvarna, Society for Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture President V. Ramchandra Raju and others at Secretariat today,
the Minister said despite having more than 44,000 water bodies covering nearly 43% of land area with water, the contribution of Telangana in the fisheries sector is negligible. He said India it is exporting only 6% of the produce while China is exporting 60 per cent of the produce.
Talasani criticised the previous governments of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh for neglecting Telangana region in Fisheries sector. He said there was no water in Telangana while major fishing activities remained concentrated in AP's coastal belt.
After the formation of Telangana, importance was given for reviving the water bodies under Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha which enabled fishing and prawns culture in the state. He said that the Telangana Government distributed fish saplings for the first time and encouraged prawn culture and their results would come by May this year.
He said, marketing facilities are establishing fish market in Hyderabad. He said one market has already come up at Begum Bazar and a few more will come in Secunderabad and other areas in the city. Similarly, he said fish markets have been established in the District and Mandal headquarters.
