Update: 2018-05-31 10:08 IST

Hyderabad: Congress leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who joined the party after leaving the BJP recently, said on Wednesday that he had joined the grand old party to expose the corruption of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Chief Minister.

Addressing the media for the first time from the Congress platform, after joining the party in the presence of AICC president Rahul Gandhi, Janardhan Reddy said he did not join the party for tickets and posts.  He made it clear that he had shifted from Telugu Desam Party to the BJP for Telangana and joined the Congress to expose the TRS.

The ruling TRS was his main rival and he did not have any differences with any leader in the Congress. The party would decide from where he should contest in the next elections, he said. Janardhan Reddy said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao tops the list of people who deceived farmers. He objected to the comments of the Chief Minister that the promises made by the Congress were not implementable.

The crop loan waiver being implemented by the TRS was not of any use to farmers as it was taken up in phases. The Congress promised waiver of loans up to Rs 2 lakh in order to bring out the farmers from crisis, he said.

Janardhan Reddy said people had faith on the Congress and it would implement Rs 2 lakh loan waiver and would root out corruption in the State. The government should extend the crop investment scheme to tenant farmers, he demanded. He alleged that it was the government which advised the farmers not to sow cotton and raise maize. However, it had failed to come to the rescue of the farmers whose maize crop dried on the fields, he added.

Farmers had been sustaining loss of Rs 1,200 per quintal on ground nut. With this loss, the crop investment being given by the government would not help the farmers in any way, Janardhan Reddy said.
