166 Automatic Weather Stations to be set up in Hyderabad
Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) is planning to set up 166 more Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and 115 AWS across the State.
Following the suggestions from IIT-Mumbai of setting up one AWS for every 4 km, TSDPS decided to take up the recommendations in Hyderabad which will not only provide weather forecast but also communicate information to different line departments at regular intervals.
To be equipped with advanced software, AWS will provide information pertaining to rainfall can be disseminated at different time intervals of 15 minutes or one hour. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy revealed that more AWS will aid in taking up remedial measures such as deploying men and machinery effectively once the flood forecast is available precisely for a particular area.
The cost of one AWS ranges from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
10 weather display boards which will be showcase temperature, rainfall and humidity are also being planned to be set up at different locations across the city.
The GHMC Commissioner stated that more than 28,000 unauthorised structures along drains across the city are being demolished in the first phase with an expenditure of Rs 230 crore.
