Wyra mandal to get Open Defecation free tag

Khammam: The Wyra mandal will soon get the tag of Open Defecation free (ODF) as it has boasted of 100 per cent completion of the construction of Individual Sanitary Latrines (ISLs) in just six months. 

The Central government in coordination with the State governments launched the prestigious programme of construction of ISLs under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for protecting the self-respect of women and for keeping the surroundings clean and neat.

Wyra Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) Bairu Malleshwari with the cooperation of Village Secretaries, MPTCs, Sarpanches and local people’s representatives motivated the people to construct ISLs. With the efforts of local MLA Banothu Madan Lal and the MPDO, the construction of around 2,221 toilets was completed on July 16 in 20 villages in the mandal within six months.

The Village Secretary of the Rebbavaram, Chittimothu Venkateshwar Rao said that the villagers had completed the construction work of toilets at a cost of Rs.12,000 by the government to each family.
