Annapurna canteens in Khammam from tomorrow

Khammam: Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) is all set to open Annapurna canteens as a pilot scheme from August 15 to cater to the poor the breakfast and meals at Rs 5 each.

With the initiative taken by the local MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao had given a green signal for opening Annapurna canteens under KMC at various locations in the Khammam city.

The scheme seeks to serve about 300 to 350 poor people with hot and hygienic breakfast and meals at Rs.5 each every day. The cost of breakfast fixed by the government is Rs.18 for each plate out of which the KMC will provide Rs13 subsidy the cost of meal is fixed by the government is Rs 24.25 for each plate out of which the KMC will provide Rs19.25 subsidy and the remaining Rs.5 will be collected from the beneficiary. The scheme will impose Rs 150 crore financial burden every year on the civi body.

Six Centres Identified:
As a pilot project to open the Annapurna Canteens, the KMC officials identified six centres at various locations in the City. They are at District Court, NTR Circle, Gandhi Chowk, Agriculture Market Area and Kalvoddu areas along with labour adda.

The breakfast consists of either three pooris or three idlies or Upma along with chutney and sambar. The meals consist of 450 grams of rice, 100 grams of dal, 150 grams of curry and a spoon of pickle along with curd.
