Botched surgery claims woman’s life

Hyderabad: A woman who reportedly underwent a laparoscopy surgery at a private hospital in Himayathnagar died here on Friday.

The 29-year-old homemaker, Shravani, was undergoing treatment for the last three to four months in the hospital. According to the police, Shravani died after she had undergone the surgery. The body of the deceased has been shifted to the Gandhi Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

The police said on Friday afternoon, they received a complaint from a businessman G Akhil, resident of Goutami Enclave, Kondapur, stating that he got married to Shravani in 2014 and was not having children since then. He and his wife Shravani had been taking treatment from the Swetha Multi Specialty Clinic at Himayathnagar for the past three months. 

As per the advice of a doctor, Dr K Nageshwara Rao, they decided to perform laparoscopic surgery on Shravani as part of infertility treatment.

On Thursday, his wife was admitted to the clinic in order to get surgery done on Friday and the surgery was performed at 6.30 am. After the surgery, the doctor and his team came out of the operation theatre around 9 am but did not inform anything on the status of operation. 

When the police arrived at the clinic, he came to know that his wife Shravani succumbed due to the negligence of the doctor and team including anaesthetist Madhava Rao. Akhil requested the police to take necessary action as per law. The case is under investigation with sub-inspector B Dayakar Reddy, according to the police.
