Call to focus on farmers, women issues

Hanamkonda: The Arts and Science College principal Banna Ailaiah has stressed the need for improving the living standards of the farmers in the country. 

Speaking at a programme organised for distributing financial assistance to widows of farming community and single women here on Tuesday, he said that compared to other countries, problems being faced by women are more in India and there was an imperative need to address it.

Agriculture Official of Warangal Usha Dayal said the Sarvodaya Youth Organisation (SYO) has been helping the kin of farmers who committed suicide. She told the beneficiaries to make proper use of the loans provided by the SYO.

Palle Damodar, SYO secretary, said they gave a helping hand to 1,000-odd kin of farmers who committed suicide in erstwhile district of Warangal. “Since 2008, the SYO has been working for the welfare of the farmers besides focusing on issues faced by the women through One Stop Centres,” Damodar said.

On the occasion, the SYO secretary Palle Damodar felicitated D S Jagan, the I&PR Deputy Director, who was promoted as Joint Director and transferred to Hyderabad.  

In all, the SYO distributed cheques worth around Rs 5 lakh to widows and single women. The SYO staff Hepsiba, Radhika, Ravinder, Suman, One Stop Centre employees Vanaja, Neeraja, Swarnalatha, Hymavathy, Pavani, Priyanka, Sujatha, Mounika, Navya, Swamy, Karunakar and , Kanaka Tara were among others present.
