Innocents put behind bars for 9 yrs: MP Asaduddin Owaisi

Hyderabad: MIM president and MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday expressed displeasure over painful incarceration of two accused for nine long years before they were pronounced innocent.

He felt that the inordinate delay in verdict was unwarranted. The August 2007 twin bombings in Hyderabad killed 44 people and maimed 68 others.

Reacting to the judgement, the MIM chief said that the injured as well as the kin of victims were also not happy as justice had not been done to them.

“This is a pathetic situation for them,” he said. He lambasted the investigation agencies for their failure to arrest the real culprits.

Owaisi said that Farooq Sharfuddin Tarkash and Mohammed Sadik Israr Ahmed Shaik who were acquitted were arrested by the investigative agencies, based on circumstantial evidence.

“They were in jail for nine years after facing interrogation for committing no crime. Who should be blamed for this this?” he asked.

Asad demanded that the investigation agencies at least now conduct thorough investigation and nab the actual culprits who had been absconding.

Only when the real culprits are caught and punished, justice would be done to the family members of those who were either killed or injured, he added.
