Telangana admin gets ready to receive EC team

Hyderabad: Even as the second special summary revision of electoral rolls -2018 began in Telangana on Monday, the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) team is set to embark on a 2-day visit to Telangana from Tuesday to review the preparedness for the conduct of the elections. Ahead of the Central team’s visit, Telangana Chief Secretary SK Joshi held a day-long meeting with police, excise departments, Collectors and SPs.

The official team headed by Deputy Election Commissioner SH Umesh Sinha will be in Hyderabad on Tuesday and Wednesday. On the first day, the ECI officials will hold meeting with all parties and seek their suggestions and opinions on the conduct of early elections in the Telangana state. On the second day, the officials will meet Chief Secretary and Secretaries of all-important departments. 

Officials said that the government has begun preparations to appoint Returning Officers at revenue division and district level to monitor the second special summary revision of electoral rolls launched on Monday. The last date to file claims and objections is September 15. Disposal of the claims will be completed by October 4 and final publication of electoral rolls will be done on October 8. As per the second summary revision -2018 draft electoral rolls, the total number of voters is 2,61,36,776.

The Chief Secretary instructed all Collectors to complete revision of electoral rolls on a war-footing in coordination with all other departments. The district authorities were instructed to hire outsourcing staff if required to complete the task within the schedule announced by the EC.
